Fatballs are the latest food trend sweeping the wellness scene.
You may have heard of other similarly named snacks such as protein balls, energy balls and bliss balls… so what makes fatballs stand out from the rest?
Fatballs are made by blending a variety ingredients together including nut butter, coconut oil, MCT oil and collagen oil.
The end result is a healthy bite that’s not only rich in flavour, but also high in nutrients.
Whereas many people snack on bliss balls to sustain their energy throughout the day, some people are now eating fatballs as meal replacements altogether.
“I’m just eating more efficiently,” Christopher Petri, a 32-year-old non-profit researcher told the New York Post.

Have a great night everyone! • Peanut Butter Superfood Energy Balls 🙌🏻💪🏻: 6 pitted medjool dates, soaked in warm water for 5 minutes then drained 1 cup almond flour 1/3 cup rolled oats 1/2 cup pumpkin seeds (or any nuts/seeds!) 1 tbsp flax seed meal 1 tbsp chia seeds 1 tbsp maple syrup 2 tbsp creamy peanut butter 3 tbsp almond milk Directions: Throw everything in a food processor or blender and blend until it’s all combined. The consistency should be thick and sticky. “I’d much rather just eat something really fast, pop it in and go, rather than have to sit down and have a meal.”
Petri told the New York Post how five days a week he opts for a fatball rather than a sandwich or salad for lunch.
Whilst it’s great that more people are embracing foods that are high in fats as part of a balanced diet, eating a fatball as a substitute for a meal may cause you to overeat accidentally.

Pumpkin Mocha Fat Balls • • These balls are the PERFECT pre-workout snack! They give you energy to fuel your muscles from healthy fats and superfoods including almonds, maca, and cacao powder! They also taste like a pumpkin mocha latte! So good! @leefromamerica gave me the inspiration to create my own version of fat balls! • • INGREDIENTS: 1/3 cup pumpkin purée 1 cup @thrivemkt coconut chips (unsweetened) 2/3 cup almond butter 1 T @bobsredmill flax seed 1 tsp pumpkin spice 1 tsp cinnamon 1/4 cup iced coffee or @foragerproject cashew milk or combo of both 1 T maca powder 2 T cacao powder 3 dates (softened) 1.5 T @nutiva coconut butter 4 scoops @vitalproteins collagen peptides 1 T @bluediamond almond flour • • DIRECTIONS: Place 2 T of coffee/cashew milk and the rest of the ingredients in a food processor or blender and blend for about a minute. Then add the rest of your coffee/cashew milk and blend for another 1-2 min! Form into balls and place in freezer for 30 min. Take out of the freezer. I like to store mine in an airtight container in the refrigerator! According to a study published by the journal Appetite, people are more likely to overeat when they eat foods that they perceive as snacks rather than meals.
So choosing to eat fatballs instead of balanced meals could lead you to go overboard with the moreish snacks.
Fatballs are a great source of nutrition when eaten sensibly.
